History
Green Hope is a non-profit organisation registered in Brussels, Belgium., The since 2011. The organisation was founded by Somali diaspora who migrated to Belgium during the Somalia civil war. Initially, Green Hope’s work focused on humanitarian activities aiming of helping the rural, predominantly tribal citizens with financial support to enable them to feed them. Over the years, however, it became clear that this charity activity was not contributing enough to bringing change on the families on ground due to myriad problems surrounding the aid recipients
Mission
Green Hope works to improve the livelihood (both economic and social development) of poor farmers and their families in rural Somalia.
Vision
Our work aims to break the vicious cycle of poverty of the agrarian community in rural areas and to restore hope for a better future of the farmers and their families. We believe that improving the standard of living of the farmers and their families will improve the livelihood of the rural community and minimise the migration of these communities to cities in search of a better life.
Objectives
- To provide basic education to the farmers and their families
- To ensure access to clean water to all household in their community
- To encourage healthcare development and establish and support health facilities
- To provide technical training and support on modern agricultural and husbandry techniques. Encourage the use of irrigation, farming tools such as tractors and inputs such as organic seeds and fertilizers,
Objectives
- To provide professional training to women and arrange micro-financing to facilitate opening of small businesses
- To create agricultural cooperatives among the farmers and connect them to the market through these cooperative
- To sponsor disadvantaged children and the disabled and encourage them to attend education and other social activities in the community
