Supporting IDP’s

Most of Internal Displacement People (IDP) are farmers

Certain segments of the Somali population have little or no access to educational opportunities, including women and girls, marginalized groups, underserved communities (including IDPs and people with disabilities) and rural residents. This inequity can be attributed to cultural and social norms, socio-economic barriers and the absence or poor implementation of policies emphasizing inclusivity. This has serious implications for Somalia’s sustainable and equitable development. Inclusive education ensures that everyone can participate in education, employment and economic opportunities

Our IDP Project

We at Green Hope believe that IDP’s are the  most underprivileged and disadvantaged    people who need emergency relief, rehabilitation  and safety.

Local organisations like Green Hope working in Somalia have limited funding and need support for education, shelter, food and medical supplies to reach out IDP’s sites.

We did a rapid field assessment to evaluate the living  conditions in Afgoye and Mogadisho IDP’s camps. We have selected 20 families based on our criteria, and provided  food and non-food items to each family. The Green Hope package delivered to these families included: 25 Kg of rice, 25Kg of flour, 2L of cooking oil, milk powder of 2.5Kg can, plastic shelter, mosquito nets to prevent malaria.

Our Qurban Project

Green Hope with the help of its partners implemented sustainable Udhiya Qurban program since 2011. During these occasions, we distributed meat in three days of Eid to poor families,  Internal Displaced Persons, and the disabled,

Beneficiaries:  We distribute in Baydaba, Buur-Hakaba and Awdegle district.

Every year benefit this Qurban between 180 to 200 needy poor families in these areas.

Green Hope promises to work more in implementing this project with its partners to help the suffering communities affected by conflict, droughts and floods.

The Ramedan Project

Ramadan Project aims to provide relief food packages and share joy and happiness during  Ramadan. The Ramadan meals are shared  with deprived and under privileged people in Mogadishu, Baydaba, Buur-Hakaba districts. .The Ramadan project starts at first day of  Ramadan ends on the 30 day of Ramadan every year.

Target group and beneficiaries

Green Hope focuses the neediest people of the target area and plans to provide Ramadan food packages with the help of the perspective donors. During  Ramadan nutritious food  packages are distributed to  200 poor and vulnerable families. The food package includes rice, flour, oil and dates.

Improve Household Food Security

The dramatic levels of undernourishment and malnutrition which result are testimony to the food insecurity in Horn of Africa. In Somalia rural areas, where most of the population depend solely on agriculture but only have success to small, low-yield family farms.  20% of these farmers plow  less than one hectare farmland and grow maize which is  is the primary grain in the region. Year in and year out these farmers are confronted with the major problems of low crop yield.

The aim of the project is to increase maize production, raise farmer’s income and meet the basic food needs of the population throughout year.

Beneficiaries: The 20 households (around 80 people) of 3 target communities in Afgoye district.
